Nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries are no longer a good choice. Even though they last longer than many other types, they are rapidly becoming a technology of the past due to their expensive nature and difficulty to recycle.
Nickel-metal hydride (NiMh) batteries are expensive, but more efficient than NiCd batteries. They offer little improvement in range over NiCd, last longer and are easier to dispose of.
Lead-acid (SLA) batteries are cheap and easy to recycle and dispose of. However, they are also the most sensitive and delicate batteries because they do not last very long.
Lithium-polymer (LiPo) batteries offer excellent performance in terms of range, weight and price. However, these batteries are not better than traditional lithium batteries.
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries have taken the market completely. Almost 90% of the e-bikes are suited with these batteries. They are lighter while also providing double power. Li-ion batteries have the best combination of total weight and capacity.
